Choosing Law as a Career

In any society, a certain set of rules has to exist for citizens to abide by. Laws are made by experienced jurists to ensure peace and harmony in the society. In the absence of these laws, people are bound to live according to their own whims and fancies, thereby causing societal rifts and gross injustice meted out to the powerless and voiceless. Therefore, the law is a set of rules through which any society operates. Laws are important for maintaining a disciplined society.  Every citizen must obey and follow these set of rules that are legally enforceable.

Why we need a lawyer?

A lawyer is a licensed professional who advises and represents others in legal matters or a person who practices law. A lawyer is also known as an attorney, barrister, litigator and solicitor. Lawyers are both advocates and advisors. They help their clients to solve the legal problems. We need lawyers in our everyday lives in countless ways. For example we need a lawyer for buying or selling a property, for counseling, for knowing legal rights, for defending a criminal charge, for making or changing a will, etc. A lawyer ensures that the rights of the client are protected and attempts to articulate the problems of the client, in the Court of Law in the best possible manner.

Why should you choose law as a career?

After 12th grade, a student often chooses to go for engineering or medicine in many parts of our country. However, choosing law as a career option can be beneficial if as you can make the decision to shift from a different career part to law without much hassle. There are multiple opportunities to take up law as a career in our country, provided the student is passionate about the subject. Law as a career path is in great demand these days. Law is not only financially lucrative but also it is an adventurous and exciting career option. The secret of success in this profession is the professional competency acquired through experience and practice with lawyers. In the olden days law was a family profession but now the situation has changed, anyone having passion for this field can choose law as a career. The legal profession, have opened many career options for the students. There is a lot of demand for law graduates in the various government agencies, non-governmental organizations and the corporate sector.

What are the skills required?

To be a good lawyer, one must be well-read and should have a decent command over the language. One must also have critical thinking skills and should be good at documentation, besides having oratory skills and the ability to work well with a team.
